About Dr. Peter W. Lobl, JD, PhD
Dr. Peter Lobl, JD, PhD, is a clinical psychologist in Midtown Manhattan who brings together training in law and psychology to help adults think carefully about their inner lives and relationships. He completed his doctorate in psychology at Mount Sinai West and has years of experience providing individual and couples therapy for people facing complex personal and professional demands. Drawing on both clinical work and leadership roles in hospital settings, he offers patients a structured space to understand why familiar patterns keep repeating and what meaningful change could look like for them.
On a more personal note, Dr. Lobl is especially interested in how people make sense of their histories and values, and he approaches conversations with a mix of curiosity, respect, and straightforward honesty.

His approach to therapy
In your first meetings, you and Dr. Lobl clarify what you want from therapy and what a “successful” outcome would look like for you. Sessions then focus on understanding the situations you find most challenging, the feelings and assumptions that get activated, and the choices you tend to make in response. Over time, this depth‑oriented work helps you see patterns more clearly, experiment with new ways of relating, and make changes that last beyond the therapy room.
Clinically, Dr. Lobl integrates a psychodynamic perspective with treatments such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), especially for mood and anxiety concerns. In couples work, he uses EFT to help partners recognize their negative cycles, communicate more openly, and rebuild trust and emotional safety. Patients often experience him as warm, thoughtful, and intellectually engaging, with a direct style that still feels respectful and collaborative.
